"At first glance, the fax looks like a dues invoice for AGC," said BBB President/CEO Dale Dixon. "A closer look reveals the fax is actually from American General Construction Association."

The BBB was not able to find much information about the organization sending the faxes, but did find a number of similar warnings being issued throughout the U.S.

The BBB encourages business owners and managers to have a discussion with all employees about sound business practices that prevent scammers from taking advantage of businesses through look-alike and sound-alike names. The BBB offers the following advice:

Never place an order via fax, phone or email unless you initiate the contact.

Use http://snake-river.bbb.org/Find-Business-Reviews/ to research all organizations before making a purchase.

Check your records to confirm claims of previous business dealings.

Before signing up for membership, make sure the organization exists.

Establish effective internal controls for the payment of invoices.

Channel all bills through one department.

Verify all invoices with the person who gave written or verbal authorization.

The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking will be published in the Federal Register on December 22, 2010 and members of the public can submit comments on the proposal for 60 days, until February 22, 2011.

Private-sector employers (including labor organizations) whose workplaces fall under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) would be required to post the employee rights notice where other workplace notices are typically posted. If an employer communicates with employees primarily by email or other electronic means, the notice would be posted electronically as well.

The NLRB issued a statement saying: "The intended effects of this action are to increase knowledge of the NLRA among employees, to better enable the exercise of rights under the statute, and to promote statutory compliance by employers and unions."

An NLRB News Release on the Proposed Rule and comment submission guidelines can be found here, and a sample of the notice can be viewed here.

Congressman McCarthy will be the Majority Whip in the 112th Congress. The Whip’s job is to count votes and work with leadership to ensure that the necessary legislation can be passed off the House floor.

While Brian will be sorely missed at IEC, we always knew that with his skills and abilities he was in line for much bigger things. This is an important career move for him and everyone at IEC wishes him well in this new endeavor.

IEC’s commitment to Government Affairs remains strong and a search for the right person to continue to build upon the success IEC has achieved with Brian’s efforts will begin shortly.

Brian will be handling outreach to the employer community, which means he will be working with groups such as IEC to make sure they understand what legislation does, and listen to their concerns about the potential impact that legislation could have on the real world. This advancement is a great tribute to Brian and his many talents and abilities.

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
